Good Evening! Welcome to Vremya on Russian Public Television. The most important news today comes from Rostov Oblast. Around 8:00 this morning a tragedy took place at the Kon-Armeysky Station, in which 19 school children were killed. Our correspondent, Aliksher Khodzhaev, reports from the scene of the tragedy. |

Страшная трагедия произошла сегодня в Ростовской области. В 7.46 на 23-ем километре железной дороги Сальск-Ставрополь произошло столкновение манёвренного тепловоза и пассажирского автобуса. В этот момент в салоне машины находилось 39 человек, в том числе 37 школьников в возрасте от 9 до 16 лет. |

A terrible tragedy occurred today in Rostov Oblast. At 7:46 a.m., there was a collision between a shunting diesel locomotive and a passenger bus along the 23rd kilometer of the Salsk-Stavropol railroad line. At that moment, there were 39 people on board the bus, including 37 school children, ranging in age from 9 to 16. |

Каждое утро детей работников аграрного коллективного хозяйства Курганинского района собирали по отделениям и возили в школу на центральную у садьбу. Подъехав к нерегулируему переезду, 29-летний водитель автобуса проигнорировал красный сигнал семафора и звуковой сигнал, и несмотря на сильный туман видимо решил, что успеет проскачить. |

Each morning the children of agrarian collective farm workers in the Kurganinsk region were picked up at the transport sections and driven to school at the farm center. Approaching an unregulated railroad crossing, the 29-year-old bus driver ignored the red light of the semaphore and the audio signal, and despite the thick fog, he apparently thought he had time to make it. |

Машинист манёвренного тепловоза, увид е в на переезде препятствие метров за 150, включил экстренное тормажение. И всё же удар был настолько сильным, что автобус разорвало в куски. Девятнадцать детей погибли на месте. И ещё двое по дороге в больницу. Водитель остался жив. Раненым детям оказана необходимая помощь. |

The locomotive operator, seeing an obstacle at the crossing about 150 meters ahead, pulled the emergency brakes. Nonetheless, the impact was so strong that the bus was torn into pieces. Nineteen children died on the spot and another two died on the way to the hospital. The driver survived. The injured children were rendered immediate medical assistance. |

Учитывая характер повреждений, а это в основном черепно-мозговые травмы, всех пострадавших доставляют в нейрохирургическое отделение города Ростова. Решением губернатора экстренно создан областной штаб. В Курганинском районе, где произошла трагедия, объявлен трёхдневный траур. |

Taking into consideration the type of injuries, and these were basically head injuries, all the victims were taken to the Rostov Neurosurgical Department. An emergency regional headquarters was established by the governor. Three days of mourning were declared in the Kurganinsk region. |
