Там продолжаются работы на месте столкновения электропоезда и камаза.¹ Десять пострадавших увезли в больницу, один человек погиб - его зажало между вагонами. We'll return to the news from Ukraine in the course of this broadcast, but we turn now to the Russian news, first on the tragedy near St. Petersburg. Work continues there at the site of the collision of an electric train and a truck. Ten injured were taken to the hospital, one person was killed - he was pinned between the train cars. From the accident scene is our correspendent, Yurij Zinchuk.

You are now watching as the resuers attempt to extract one of the passengers trapped by the cars after the collision. The accident occurred around one o'clock today at one of the Oktyabrskij railroad crossings in the direction of Vyborg.

Двадцать девятый километр, переезд Белоостров-Левашон. Камаз с прицепом, гружённый видеотехникой, выехал на переезд, и когда задние колёса уже съезжали железнодорожного полотна, электричка на скорости 70 километров в час, врезалась в автомобиль.

The 29th kilometer at the Beloostrov-Levashon crossing. A tractor-trailor loaded with video equipment entered the crossing, and as the rear tires were already clearing the railroad tracks, the electric train slammed into the vehicle at a speed of 70 kilometers per hour.

Вот так выгладит место катастрофы спустя час после аварии. Уже по этой картинке можно представить себе насколько сильно был удар в момент столкновения. По счастливой случайности большинство пассажиров находилось в последних вагонах. Но как нам только что сообщили спасатели, один пассажир всё-таки скончался на месте катастрофы. Новых данных о жертвах пока нет.

This is how the scene of the accident looks an hour after the wreck. From this sight you can already imagine how powerful the collision was at the moment of impact. By sheer luck, the majority of the passengers were in the rear cars. But as we were just informed by the rescuers, one passenger did die at the scene of the accident. There's still no additional information regarding the injured.

Ближе к вечеру появилась точная и официальная информация о жертвах и пострадавших: один человек погиб, десять с различными степенями тяжестей травм доставлены в больницу. Врачи говорят, что их жизнь вне опасности.

Towards evening, accurate and official information emerged regarding casualties and the injured: one person died, ten with injuries of varying degrees of severity were taken to the hospital. The doctors are saying that their lives are out of danger.

-- Они сейчас, со слов докторов из Староверской реанимации, они в состоянии между удовлетворительной и средней тяжестью.

"According to doctors of the intensive care unit in Staroversk aya, their status now ranges from satisfactory to moderately injured."

-- Ага. Самая распространённая травма какая у них?

"Aha. What's the most common injury among them?"

-- Мелкая скелетная травма, ущербы задниц и сотрясение мозга.

"Minor skeletal trauma, 'back' injuries, concussions."

Очевидцы, которые находились в электричке так описывают то, что происходило здесь спустя несколько минут после катастрофы:

Eyewitnesses who were aboard the train describe what happened here several minutes after the accident thus:

-- Электричка останавливалась, на высечку тогда выбежали. Начали вытаскивать, а, людей из этого, из этого, а, вагона, через окно. Мы людей вытащили, и вот человека до сих пор достают. Уж попытались ему помочь, конечно, там двери ломом отжимать там, что-то, как-то, чтобы он дышал. Но, ну, я не знаю. До сих пор две двери выпилили уже, то есть, ну.

"The train stopped and we ran out into the ditch. We began to pull, uh, people from the, from the car, through the window. We pulled the people out and they're still getting one person out. We tried to help him of course, force open the doors there with a crowbar, something, somehow, so that he could breath. But, well, I don't know. They've cut open two doors already, that is, uh."

Главный вопрос - кто виноват - пока остаётся без ответа. Уже сейчас следователи допросили чудом оставшиеся в живых водителя камаза. По отрывочным сведениям из источников (У)ГИБДД, можно лишь сделать вывод, что вина водителя пока полностью не признана.

The main question - who is to blame - remains unanswered. Investigators are already questioning the driver of the truck, who miraculously survived. According to some fragmentary information from sources at the Directorate of State Road Inspections, one can only infer that the driver's culpability hasn't yet been fully acknowledged.

Шлагбаум был открыт и никакой предупреждающей о приближении поезда сигнализации не было. Это подтверждают и представители транспортной милиции.

The crossing gate was open and there wasn't any warning signal of the train's approaching. This is also confirmed by spokespersons from the traffic police.

-- Ну, есть предположение здесь проводились ремонтные работы, работали, значит, дрезины, значит возможно здесь и есть вина, значит, дежурного по переезду в данном случае - возможно, возможно. Но, я сейчас, а, конкретно вам сказать ничего в данном случае не могу. Значит, всё пока же в следствии.

"Well, there's the suggestion that repair work was being conducted here, hand cars, uh, were at work, uh, it's possible that the crossing guard here may be at fault in this instance - possibly, possibly. But I, uh, can't say anything for sure right now in this regard. That is, everything is still under investigation."

Уже несколько часов идёт допрос дежурного по переезду. Так как переезд ремонтировался и все афтоматические системы управления были отключены, именно дежурный должен был лично управлять транспортным потоком автомашин через переезд. Не исключено, что именно неправильные действия дежурного признают как основную причину катастрофы.

Questioning of the crossing guard has been going on for several hours now. Since the crossing was being repaired and all the automated control systems were turned off, it was the crossing guard who was to personally control the flow of traffic through the crossing. It's possible that these incorrect actions of the crossing guard will be declared to be the main cause of the accident.

Это уже вторая крупная катастрофа на Октябрькой железнодороге за последние 13 месяцев. В январе прошлого года сошёл с рельсов поезд Великие Луки -Петербург. Тогда погиб один человек и 20 получили серьёзные травмы. Причина - сбой в работе светофора.

This is already the second big accident on the Oktyabrskij Railroad in the past 13 months. In January of last year, the Velikiye Luki to St. Petersburg train derailed. That time one person was killed and 20 received serious injuries. The cause was a malfunctioning traffic light.
