Сегодня днём под Псковом разбился истребитель российского ВМФ СУ-33. Произошло это по совершенно нелепому стечению обстоятельств во время авиашоу, посвящённого дню морской авиации.

A Russian Navy SU-33 fighter crashed today near Pskov. It occurred as a result of a rather freak combination of circumstances during an air show in honor of Naval Aviation Day.

Эксперты предполагают, что при заходе на посадку могли отказать системы управления самолёта. По последним данным, бортовые самописцы уже найдены. На месте трагедии работает специальная комиссия. Репортаж нашего специального корреспондента, Валерия Драгиева.

Experts suspect that the aircraft's control systems may have failed during the landing approach. According to the latest information, the on-board flight recorders have been found. A special commission is at work at the scene of the tragedy. A report from our special correspondent, Valerij Dragiyev.

Во второй раз за последние два месяца подобные кадры - кадры падения самолёта, оказываются снятыми на видеоплёнку. Второй подярд российский авиационный праздник заканчивается с авиакатастрофой. На этот раз под Псковом разбился палубный истребитель СУ-33, военно-морской авиации России.

For the second time in the past two months similar footage, footage of an airplane falling, has been recorded on videotape. For the second time in a row, a Russian aviation holiday ends with a fatal air accident. This time a Russian naval aviation SU-33 carrier-based fighter crashed near Pskov.

Учебный центр морской авиации военно-морского флота России: он появился здесь под Псковом всего семь лет назад, после того, как распался Советский Союз, и единственный подобный центр остался на Украине.

The Russian Naval Aviation Training Center: it wound up here outside of Pskov just seven years ago, after the Soviet Union disintegrated and the only similar center left was in the Ukraine.

И каждый год с тех пор, примерно в это время, здесь проводят праздник, посвящённый основанию морской авиации - "день открытых дверей," как его здесь называют.

And every year since then, at about this time, they celebrate the holiday dedicated to the founding of naval aviation - the Day of Open Doors, as it's called here.

Впрочем обычно всё ограничивается концертом и демонстрацией военной техники, и лишь дважды, 80-ую и на этот раз 85-ую годовщину, здесь состоялись показательные выступления лётчиков.

However, events are usually limited to a concert and a display of military hardware, and only twice, on the 80th and this time on the 85th anniversary, were flight demonstrations held here.

Так же как во время недавнего авиашоу под Петербургом, когда в воздухе столкнулись два штурмовика ИЛ-39 пилотажной группы "Русь," за штурвалом разбившегося сегодня самолёта находился один из лучших российских лётчиков.

Just as during the recent air show near St. Petersburg when two IL-39 ground-attack aircraft from the "Rus" aerial stunt team collided, one of Russia's best pilots was at the controls of the aircraft that crashed today.

Героя России Тимура Апакидзе на флоте называют легендой. Именно он, первым из строевых лётчиков, то есть, не из лётчиков-испытателей, совершил посадку на палубу авианосца. И с тех пор он совершил более трёхсот таких посадок.

In the Navy, hero of Russia Timur Apakidze, is a legend. For he was the first of the front-line pilots, that is, not from among the test pilots, to land on the deck of an aircraft carrier. And since then, he has completed more than 300 such landings.

Чтобы объяснить, что это значит, на флоте приводят один пример: в США лётчиков, совершивших 200 посадок на палубу поимённо знает президент.

To illustrate what this means, the Navy cites one example: in the U.S., the President knows the pilots by name, who have completed 200 carrier-landings.

И тем необъяснимо выглядит сегодняшняя катастрофа, пока нет никаких даже предварительных версий. Единственное о чём говорят военные, это почему лётчик такого класса, как Тимур Апакидзе, не успел катапультироваться.

And as inexplicable as today's accident appears, there aren't even, as yet, any preliminary hypotheses. All the military is talking about is why a top-notch pilot like Timur Apakidze didn't manage to eject.

-- На команды руководителя полётов, на команды, а, помощника руководителя полётов на катапультирование, лётчик из-за недостатка высоты и времени не сработал.

"At the command of the flight controller, at the command, uh, of the deputy flight controller to eject, the pilot, due to insufficient altitude and time, did not do so."

На все остальные вопросы о причине катастрофы представители военного командования отвечают лишь, "мы сами ломаем голову."

In response to all the other questions regarding the cause of the accident, military officials merely reply, "we're racking our brains."

Тимур Апакидзе выполнил всю программу, составленную, усложнившей фигурой высшего пилотажа. На этих кадрах видно, как он заходит на посадку - манёвр достаточно простой для этого лётчика, три сотни раз садившегося на палубу авианосца.

Timur Apakidze completed the entire program as planned with the most difficult stunt flying maneuver. In this footage you can see as he heads for a landing - a relatively simple manuever for this pilot who has landed 300 times on the deck of an aircraft carrier.

И вдруг по выражению специалистов, видавших момент аварии, самолёт как будто просел и затем упал буквально плашмя. Тимур Апакидзе до последнего момента пытался спасти машину и увести её от расположенной неподалёку деревни.

And suddenly from the look on the faces of the experts who saw the moment of the crash, it was as if the aircraft collapsed and then literally fell down flat. Up until the last moment, Timur Apakidze tried to recover the aircraft and steer it away from a villiage situated nearby.

Сейчас место происшествия оцеплено и журналистов туда не пускают - что впрочем вполне понятно, учитывая специфику этой катастрофы. Сейчас там работает комиссия по безопасности полётов, которая прилетела из Москвы уже через несколько часов после происшествия.

The site of the accident has now been cordoned off and journalists aren't being allowed in - which however, is entirely understandable, considering the nature of this crash. A flight safety commission that flew in from Moscow within hours of the incident, is now at work there.

По последней информации на месте катастрофы уже найдены так называемые чёрные ящики, и видимо только после их расшифровки, которая обычно по меньшей мере занимает несколько дней, станет что-либо известно о причинах этой катастрофы.

According to the latest information, the so-called black boxes have been located at the crash site, and apparently only after their deciphering - which usually takes at least several days - will anything become known regarding the causes of this disaster.
