Now on the situation in Grozny. According to intelligence reports, the rebels 'rigged' chlorine and ammonia storage tanks to explode near the train station and Minutka Square. They're prepared to blow them up at any moment in order to prevent the assault forces from moving into the center of Grozny.

Our correspondent, Pavel Spiring, is on the very front line, and managed to film at least one of the federal forces' special operations. From Grozny, reporting for ORT.

Боевики создали здесь мощный опорный пункт. По словам военных, десятки домов в Грозном превращены боевиками в настоящие крепости.

This is all that remains of the Chechen-Ingush Agroprom seed terminal at the entrance to Grozny But no one should be fooled by its name. Not once have any seeds been delivered here for years. The rebels have created a powerful defensive position here. According to the military, the rebels have turned 'dozens' of homes in Grozny into real fortresses.

На этот раз обороняться пришлось нашим солдатам. Они превратили в крепость небольшое здание на восточных окраинах Грозного, со стороны железнодоржной станции Ханкала.

This time our troops were forced to defend themselves. They turned a small building on the eastern outskirts of Grozny, from the direction of the Khankala train station, into a fortress.

Как это нередко случается на войне, вину и всему несогласованность. Армейцы неожиданно для соседей оставили позиции, и блокпост 33-ей бригады внутренних войск попал в огневой мешок. Солдат спасать пошли добровольцы из бригадной разведки и петербургского ОМОН.

As often happens in war, there was a lack of coordination. The army surprised their flank by abandoning their positions, and a checkpoint of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Internal Troops' 33rd Brigade ended up in a pocket of fire. Volunteers from brigade reconnaissance and the St. Petersburg Special Purpose Forces went to rescue the troops.

Под прикрытием этого бронетранспортёра, омоновцы доставили боеприпасы. Чеченские снайперы пристреляли каждый квадратный метр Грозного, поэтому до передовой, питерские милиционеры добирались перебежками.

The Special Purpose Forces transported ammunition under the cover of this armored personnel carrier. Chechen snipers zeroed in on every square meter of Grozny, so the St. Petersburg militiamen reached the front at a run.

Бой длится уже несколько часов, никто не жалея патроны. От пуль чеченских боевиков наших бойцов спасают наспех сложенные в оконных проёмах кирпичи.

The battle has lasted for several hours already. Nobody is skimping on ammunition. Our troops are protected from the Chechen rebels' bullets by bricks, hastily-placed in the window openings.

Операция по спасению блокпоста закончена без потерь, так у разведчиков, как и у ОМОНа.

The checkpoint rescue operation has ended without any losses, both among the reconnaissance troops as well as the Special Purpose Forces.

Несмотря на сообщения о том, что боевики деморализованы и покидают Грозный, среди них по-прежнему немало наёмников.

In spite of reports that the rebels are demoralized and are leaving Grozny, there are still a lot of mercenaries among them.

Here's a clip of a dead terrorist. According to his documents, he's of Arabic descent. He was dragged to the rear along with our wounded, to be identified. According to intelligence reports, the rebels are expecting a decisive assault and are preparing their next terrorist act.

По-прежнему неизвестна судьба генерала Малофеева, пропавшего несколько дней назад в Грозном. Боевики утверждают, что генерал ранен, находится у них в плену, и что существует видеозапись его допроса. В объединённой группировке войск не подтверждают, но и не опровергают эту информацию.

The fate of General Malofeev, who disappeared several days ago in Grozny, remains unknown. The Rebels claim that the general was wounded, that he's their prisoner, and that they have a video of his interrogation. The combined strategic forces are neither confirming nor denying this information.
